Approve guests before they pay: running curated events
Some gatherings are better when the host chooses the room: a singles mixer, a founders’ dinner, a house party in your own home, a retreat with limited beds. Public “first come, first served” ticketing doesn’t fit those.
How it works
- Turn on approval for your event.
- Add the questions you need to decide — Instagram handle, why they want to come, profession, age range. Mark any as required.
- Guests send a request with their answers.
- You see each request in Approvals and approve or decline.
- Approved guests get their QR pass by email.
When do guests pay?
- If you take payment on your UPI ID, guests pay when they send their request, and you approve after checking the money arrived. If you decline someone who has paid, refund them — the money went to you.
- If you don’t use UPI, approved guests pay after you approve.
- Free events: nobody pays; approval simply decides who gets a pass.
Who uses it
- Singles mixers and blind-date nights, often together with separate tickets for men and women.
- House parties and home concerts where you want to know who is coming into your home.
- Retreats, residencies and selective workshops with limited places.
- Community dinners and invite-style socials.
Tips
- Say in your description that spots are approved, and roughly when people will hear back.
- Ask only questions you will actually use to decide.
- Decide quickly — people who wait days often make other plans.
Try it for your next gathering
Free to start. Guests pay you directly; Yano never holds your ticket money. Free events cost nothing.
Questions people ask
Do declined guests get charged?
Only approved guests get a pass. If guests paid your UPI with their request, refund anyone you decline — the money came to you, not to Yano.
Can I see a guest’s answers before approving?
Yes. Each request shows the answers they gave, and the answers also appear in your guest list download.
