Running a run club: sign-ups, regulars and a true headcount

By the Yano team · 12 October 2026 · 6 min read

A run club lives on rhythm and regulars. The admin — WhatsApp polls, spreadsheets of T-shirt sizes, guessing how many will show — shouldn’t eat the fun.

Free sessions cost nothing

Create each run as a free event. Free passes use no credits, so weekly runs cost you nothing on Yano. Add a paid session (a themed run, a race-day bus) whenever you like — paid passes use one credit each.

One link that always shows the next run

Your organiser page (yano.club/o/your-club) lists every upcoming session. Put it in your Instagram bio once. Repeat a run with everything copied and only the date changed.

Ask what you need when people sign up

  • T-shirt size for a club tee.
  • Pace group (choice: easy, steady, fast).
  • Emergency contact, if you collect one — and say why.
  • Answers appear on each runner and in the spreadsheet download.

Know who actually came

Scan passes at the start point with any phone — or check people in from your list. Your dashboard then shows the true turnout, not the RSVP count. Useful when you talk to a sponsor or a venue.

Tell first-timers what to expect

Put distance, pace, meeting time and “beginners welcome” in your event description. It answers the questions that stop people from coming the first time.

Keep your regulars

Runners can follow your club in the Yano Android app. When you post a new date and tap “Tell my regulars”, they get one quiet notification — no emails, no spam.

Try it for your next gathering

Free to start. Guests pay you directly; Yano never holds your ticket money. Free events cost nothing.

Questions people ask

Do runners need an app to sign up?

No. They sign up in any phone browser and get their pass by email. The app is optional (Android) for following clubs.

Can I limit a run to 40 people?

Yes. Set how many passes are available; when they are gone, sign-ups close.
