An honest comparison for organisers in India. Checked October 2026.
Use BookMyShow when you need strangers to discover your event in its app. Use Yano when your guests already come from you — your Instagram, WhatsApp groups or community — and you want the money paid straight to you, a guest list you own, and entry checked on a phone.
BookMyShow is a marketplace: people browse its app for things to do, book there, and BookMyShow collects the payment and pays the organiser. Yano is your own booking page: your guests come from your Instagram, WhatsApp or community, and they pay you directly.
BookMyShow does not publish its organiser fees; they are agreed with BookMyShow for each event. Ask them for a written rate card, and for how and when you will be paid. Guests usually also see a convenience fee at checkout.
Free events cost nothing. Each paid pass uses one prepaid credit (₹6–₹10 depending on the pack), and new organisers get 50 free credits. Yano takes no commission and no monthly fee. If you use your own Razorpay or Cashfree, your gateway charges its own fee.
With your own UPI, guests pay straight into your UPI account. With your own Razorpay or Cashfree, your gateway pays you on its usual schedule. Yano never holds ticket money.
Some will: events you choose to list appear on Yano’s Find page and through Yano’s connector for AI apps like Claude and ChatGPT. But Yano is not a big marketplace. If most of your guests must come from people who have never heard of you, BookMyShow’s audience is the bigger reach.
Free events cost nothing. For paid events you start with 50 free credits.
